Shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal accident in the area of US 6 and Quince Road.
According to the crash report, 74-year-old Philip Braun was driving a white Chevy flatbed truck behind 69-year-old Judith Masterson who was traveling in a silver Buick Century. They were both going westbound on US 6.
The investigating officer’s narrative indicates that Braun started passing Masterson’s vehicle as she was beginning to make a left-hand turn. This reportedly resulted in the truck colliding with the front door on the driver’s side of the car.
While Braun’s vehicle sustained extensive driver’s side damage, he was uninjured. Masterson was declared deceased at the scene.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this case.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, the Indiana State Police, Walkerton’s EMS and Police Department, as well as the Polk Township, LaPaz and Walkerton Fire Departments.
