The Argos Community Junior/Senior High School and Plymouth High School were recently awarded with the 2017 Advanced Placement Award by Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jennifer McCormick.
The schools were selected as at least 25 percent of their 2017 graduating class received a 3, 4, or 5 on an Advanced Placement (AP) exam. About 30 percent of Argos students achieved this distinction while Plymouth students numbered around 32 percent.
According to information provided by the Indiana Department of Education, AP is a research-based program designed to facilitate student participation and success through delivery of college-level courses and corresponding exams in the high school setting. Qualified students who pass AP courses enroll in college at higher rates, require significantly less remediation, and have higher first-year grade point averages and credit hours earned than other groups of students.
Officials from the schools awarded were invited to attend a ceremony yesterday (Tuesday, June 12) at the Indiana Statehouse.
