Indiana Department of Transportation crews will be performing chip and seal work on State Road 331 between U.S. 6 and U.S. 30 beginning today.
Southbound drivers on State Road 331 will be detoured east on U.S. 6, south on State Road 19 and west on State Road 25 back to State Road 331. Northbound drivers on State Road 331 will be detoured east on State Road 25, north on State Road 19, and west on U.S. 6 back to State Road 331.
Chip sealing extends the life of a roadway by protecting it from moisture, ultraviolet degradation and other damaging exposures.
When the road reopens, INDOT officials urge caution in the area as loose stone will be present on the roadway during the initial cure of the asphalt. Stones may cause damage to windshields and paint on vehicles. It is suggested to slow speed on freshly chip and sealed roads and allow additional space between vehicles.
