The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department recently completed a 24-day Click it or Ticket effort to enforce seat belt laws in cars and trucks.
The officers involved in the enforcement issued 35 citations and 67 warnings. The Culver Police Department reported a total of 22 citations and warnings.
The overtime, high-visibility traffic patrols were supported with federal traffic safety funds administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
Both adults and children were checked for proper seat belt use. In Indiana, unrestrained children under 16 are the driver’s responsibility.
Police urge adults to use seat belts to lower the risk of serious injury or death in a motor vehicle accident. Unrestrained drivers or passengers can become projectiles that injure or kill others in the car.
