Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters informed County Commissioners about some long-term equipment investments that his department has been researching.
Some of the items that Peters mentioned included a laboratory soil compactor and an excavator. He added that they’re interested in trading in an old paver and potentially trading in a backhoe.
Additionally, the supervisor explained that members of the highway department have discussed purchasing a service truck and replacing the semi-tractor on their lowboy.
“Our semi-tractor is getting pretty old and pretty tired.” He explained, “It’s not something we use every single day but it does play a pretty big role in when it comes to moving machinery from one point to the next.”
Commissioner Mike Delp noted that the department had budgeted approximately $240,000 in the line item for equipment. Peters confirmed that was how much they estimated but said after looking into the costs, it came in a little under budget.
Peters told the commissioners, “We looked and we could probably [pay] $68,000 for a roller, some where in the vicinity of $100,000 for excavator, a service truck would be around $60,000 and a semi-tractor would be around $10,000 which put us at about $238,000 and hopefully we can move those things around a little bit.”
Peters said the highway department will continue to research additional products and compare prices before making any final decisions on potential purchases.
