The contractor ratings are in and now the LaPorte Street Footbridge project in Plymouth will move another step forward.
Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul told the Board of Public Works and Safety members this week that several firms were scored by a local panel and it was a close race. In the end, VS Engineering was selected to work on the project.
Gaul formally asked the board members to move forward with the negotiation pre-contract stage with the company to move the footbridge project into the next phase.
The city was recently awarded $1.3 million in grant funds to restore the historic footbridge. The city will fund the balance of the estimated $2 million cost of the project.
According to city officials, the downtown landmark will be reconstructed with a new bridge deck and railing, repair of the superstructure and substructure, full cleaning and painting of all components, and new ADA accessible approaches.
