Register to Receive FEMA Assistance

Federal funding is now available to Marshall County homeowners and renters for temporary housing, home repairs and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses after the flooding event in February.

As of Tuesday, May 15, nearly $812,000 in FEMA assistance will help in financial aid. More than 650 registrations have been submitted.

In order to receive assistance, those reporting losses will need to apply online at www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.

A local Disaster Recovery Center is not in place at this time, but if survivors would like to personally speak with a recovery specialist from FEMA, Small Business Administration or a representative from the state, Elkhart County has a center open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week at 608 Oakland Avenue in Elkhart.

FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams are in areas hit by flooding. To make sure that a visitor is an official FEMA representative, ask for an ID badge and don’t give out any personal information as FEMA will never require banking or other personal information. Representatives will already have a nine digit registration number. You may need to verify proof of ownership or occupancy.
