The Marshall County Election Board members discussed the late filing of campaign finance reports by three candidates during their meeting Wednesday morning.
George Null, Greg Frushour and Marie Fishburn did not file their reports by the April 20 deadline at noon. They were contacted a day before the deadline to remind them to file their paperwork. The Democratic party was also notified. All parties subsequently submitted reports by the end of April.
George Null is a Republican candidate running for Argos Town Council, Greg Frushour is a Democrat candidate running for West Town Trustee while Marie Fishburn is a Republican running for Green Township Trustee.
Clerk Deb VanDeMark said the candidates may have been confused on whether or not they needed to file a campaign finance report since no expenditures or donations occurred. Election Board member Ralph Huff reminded those in attendance during Wednesday’s meeting that a report needs to be submitted to the clerk no matter what.
The board members did exercise a statute that allows for a $50 fine for failure to file the campaign finance report paperwork on time; however, that fine will be suspended until the next deadline to file a similar report in October. If those candidates do not file on time in October, the fine will be imposed. Additional penalties may be assessed.
