A complaint about damage to the trails in the Marshall County Forest may lead to an ordinance restricting motorized vehicles there and fines for violators.
During the Marshall County Commissioners meeting Monday morning, Commissioner Mike Delp said he walked in the area and significant damage.
“There’s some significant damage going on especially with Motocross bikes and throwing dirt and making big ruts when they turn the corners,” said Delp. “It doesn’t appear that we have an ordinance restricting motorized vehicles in there. I’m just thinking we need to do something to stop the damage that’s going on.”
The commissioners discussed putting up signs prohibiting motorized vehicles, but County Attorney Jim Clevenger warned that the signs may not be able to be enforced without an ordinance.
The commissioners asked Clevenger to research the issue and create a draft ordinance for review at their next meeting. The ordinance may include fines if there are continuous violations.
