The IREAD 3 test results show good progress at the John Glenn School Corporation.
Elementary School Assistant Principal Rebecca Cummings presented the John Glenn School Board with the results from students tested at North Liberty Elementary School and Walkerton Elementary School.
At North Liberty Elementary School, 89 percent of the students passed the IREAD 3 exam. Nine out of 85 students tested did not pass. Eight are Special Education students and do get a waiver from the Department of Education so they are not required to attend summer school for remediation and retesting. However, Cummings said two of those students will be invited to attend summer school in June.
“We had two of those students who were within five points of the cut score of passing and I believe one of the students was one point away,” reported Cummings. “We believe that with just a little push in June both of them will be able to accomplish that.”
One General Education student has to attend summer school and retake the test in June.
The Walkerton Elementary School had a 92 percent passing rate. Six students out of the 73 tested did not pass. Of those students, five of those students are Special Education students and will receive a waiver. One General Education student who did not pass will be invited to attend summer school in June for remediation and a retest.
Overall, Cummings said the John Glenn School Corporation had a 91 percent passing rate.
