Argos Town Council Raises Trash Rates Slightly to Address Existing Shortfall

Trash rates in Argos were raised slightly when Town Council members met last Wednesday.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that officials compared how much they were charging to how much they were paying for the services and realized that they were not collecting enough to fully pay their contract with Republic Services. Mullaney said about $5,000 per year was being lost as a result of the under-charging.

In order to address the issue, the clerk-treasurer said a 75 cent increase for trash collection bills for all households and commercial properties was approved by the town council members.
