Wrong Way Driver Charged with OVWI, Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident

A Plymouth man was arrested on Friday, March 30, after reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol, driving the wrong way on U.S. 30 and causing an accident that resulted in injuries.

Police were notified of a driver headed the wrong way on U.S. 30 shortly before 1 a.m. on March 30. Officers were also told that the driver caused an accident on U.S. 30 east of State Road 331 and left the scene.

According to a report from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, all occupants of the damaged vehicle were evaluated by paramedics and no medical transports were needed.

Police say they received a phone call that a vehicle with front end damage was spotted off of Lincoln Highway just west of Beech Road. When officers arrived, they checked on the driver who was identified as Alaen Medrano. He allegedly admitted to driving the wrong way on U.S. 30 and hitting a vehicle. He also allegedly admitted to drinking a couple of drinks prior getting into the vehicle to drive. Medrano reportedly failed all field sobriety tests, a portable breathalyzer test and a certified chemical test.
