Members of the Marshall County Long Term Recovery Committee met Monday morning to receive an update on flood recovery efforts.
Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery said FEMA funding, if approved, won’t be available for a while yet. He said FEMA assessment crews finished up their Indiana visit last week. They visited all of the counties listed in the governor’s disaster declaration. Once they review all of the findings, they will either approve or reject funding. If funding is denied, the governor can file an appeal to be further reviewed by FEMA.
The need to clean up properties is still evident. Steering Committee representative Linda Yoder said community fundraisers will be planned soon. A donation box may be set up during the first Farmer’s Market that will be open on May 12. There are donation boxes at several business establishments in the area.
Members of the Mennonite Disaster Service out of Pennsylvania offered manpower to help families in need while recently trained case management workers are busy assisting survivors in their efforts to process work orders, claims and other needs.
Only three families are still requiring housing services. Many more families were affected, but they have found temporary housing with other family members, neighbors or friends.
Those who still need assistance with food and clothing are encouraged to call 2-1-1 for information. Those who have specific questions about flood recovery are asked to call the Flood Resource Center at 574-316-0170.
