The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and the Marshall County Committee for a Drug-Free Indiana encourage residents to drop off prescription medication that is no longer needed.
Sheriff Matt Hassel says any expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs may be taken to officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department or the drug free committee members in the Walgreens Parking lot at 2014 N. Michigan Street in Plymouth today (Saturday, April 28) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
According to a 2009 national survey on drug use and health, more Americans abuse prescription medications more than a combined total of cocaine, heroin and hallucinogen abusers. Keeping unused prescription drugs in the home increases the risk of abuse making it a public concern.
Dispose of any unused medication properly. One safe method is to take it to a drug take back event like the one today where the medications can be incinerated by officials in a protected environment.
