As students around Indiana take the ISTEP for the final time, school officials are looking ahead to the new ILEARN test.
Culver Schools Superintendent Karen Shuman discussed the transition with the school board Monday. “ISTEP will change to ILEARN for 2019 testing,” she explained. “There’ll be only one session of testing, they’re telling us. It will be still online, computer-based. It’ll be a shortened test. It won’t be the six-to-10 hours the kids test currently. They’re hoping it’ll be less than the six hours. So you’ll start to hear the terms “ILEARN, ILEARN, ILEARN” come up, and it’s ISTEP; it’s just a different company and hopefully a better program, way of assessing our kids once a year.”
However, Shuman said that 10th grade students will continue to be given the ISTEP for another three years. The IREAD test given to third graders will also continue.
