Bourbon Woman Arrested on Fraud, Theft Charges

Debra Long

A Bourbon woman was taken into police custody on Tuesday, April 10 on charges of fraud on a financial institution and theft.

According to a report from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, for several months, Debra Long purchased clothing items from about 33 independent retail vendors from the LulaRoe company. After the items were delivered to her home, Long allegedly contacted her financial institution to claim that the purchases were made fraudulently. The money used to purchase the items was then removed from the victim’s account.

Police say Long was selling the same items that were delivered to her house and the victim provided evidence of social media posts reportedly promoting the sales.

According to police, an investigation found that Long used various bank accounts in the names of Debra and Thomas Long to complete the online purchases and then filed affidavits through the issuing banks claiming the transactions were fraudulent in order to stop payment after she received the clothing.

Long was arrested at her residence without incident. The case remains under investigation with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department with additional charges pending through the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office.
