Argos Town Council members approved a resolution last week that formally adopts the Marshall County Multi-Hazard Emergency Management Mitigation Plan.
Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery recently informed all town and city officials within the county that the plan was ready to be approved by each jurisdiction that participated in the mitigation planning process.
Avery reminded the officials that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires local governments to develop and adopt hazard mitigation plans as a condition for receiving particular types of non-emergency disaster assistance. He added that jurisdictions must update their hazard mitigation plans and re-submit them for FEMA approval every five years to maintain eligibility.
In a correspondence to the officials, Avery mentioned that the plan fulfills a requirement that would permit potential funding from programs such as Flood Mitigation Assistance planning and project grants, the Pre-Disaster Mitigation project grant, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, Fire Mitigation Assistance Grants and public assistance to help repair damaged infrastructure in publically owned buildings.
Now that the Argos Town Council members have approved their resolution, Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney will send an authorized copy back to EMA Director Avery. Once all officials send approved resolutions back to Avery, he will forward the documents to FEMA and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security so they can officially be recorded.
