One juvenile is in custody after an alleged threat was intercepted through a Snapchat thread.
Triton Community School Superintendent Jeremy Riffle said the alleged threat was discovered Wednesday afternoon.
“We received the threat at about 3:45 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday, Feb. 28),” said Riffle. “The police department called the high school principal who then called me so we were at the police department taking care of that and looking into the threat. It was a Snapchat threat toward our community and our school. Obviously, a lot of things had to happen as far as getting the ability to go in and try to find who that was who sent it. So, at about 1:05 a.m. we got clearance from Snapchat and then at 1:45 a.m. we located the residents and suspect. At 3:15 a.m., the suspect was in custody.”
Riffle gives credit to the community for identifying the threat, the police department for swift action, High School Principal Bob Ross for following safety procedures, and the Cyber Crimes Unit in helping to apprehend the offender.
“It went well. We don’t ever want to go through it again, but I feel we had the right people at the right place.”
