Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12th, the Marshall County Dispatch Center received a call of a structure fire on 6th Road.
The 911 caller indicated that they were driving by when they observed a residence in the 11800 Block of 6th Road on fire. They further stated that it was unknown if there were any occupants inside, according to an official press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
The release goes on to say that officers with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department along with members the La Paz Fire Department responded to the address where it was determined that a single-family residential structure was found to have heavy smoke and flames coming from it.
Firefighters from the Plymouth, Bremen and Polk Fire Departments responded to assist with extinguishing the fire. The residence sustained heavy damage but fortunately, no occupants were home at the time of the fire.
Once it was extinguished, Marshall County Sheriff’s Department officers began investigating the fire which was believed to be suspicious in nature, according to police. During the investigation it was learned that unknown subject(s) had reportedly forced entry into the residence and while inside, police determined that several items had been removed from the residence and set on fire by the subject(s).
