The Argos School Board met for a special session Friday morning in order to discuss a few matters that needed to be addressed prior to their regular meeting on March 19th.
Superintendent Ned Speicher explained that the first item on the agenda was the consideration of a resolution, “We had a resolution to continue the process to transition from an appointed school board to an elected school board and this is just the next step to get approval from the state of Indiana and our goal will be to have this set so that at the November 6th general election in 2018, we’ll be ready to have the first election for school board members.”
Superintendent Speicher mentioned that members have been in the process of shifting from an appointed school board to an elected one for about a year. He also mentioned that since the school board passed the resolution, it will now be submitted to the State Board of Education for final approval.
Additionally, members voted unanimously to have a survey conducted in order to assess any drainage needs on the school’s campus.
Superintendent Speicher explained that the recent rain and flooding caused them to reflect on some potential issues with effective drainage. He said they’ll have a surveyor come in to take a look at the roof, parking lots and other portions of the property to determine what kind of changes will need to take place to improve draining.
