The John Glenn School Board members discussed make up days for school missed due to weather this year.
Superintendent Richard Reese explained that the corporation has four built-in snow make up days. Two of those days have already been used and two more days will be used in April to make up for the days of instruction missed. Snow, fog and flooding issues were the main culprits of cancelled school.
Reese noted that the corporation hosts students from three counties and the corporation must coordinate with all entities when making a decision to cancel or delay school.
“We have tried to cooperate with the town, the city and the counties to work with them and a lot of times we’ll get direction like ‘if you could delay school so that we, the town, city, county and parents, can see where roads are flooded, closed or if there is high water.’ We try to cooperate with them to meet their mandate,” said Reese.
If there are any more school cancellations, those days would be made up at the end of the year.
Reese said sometimes parents may disagree with the corporation’s decisions, but student safety is always the top priority.
