Bourbon Town Council members received a project proposal from architect Brent Martin and Habitat for Humanity Representatives Dean Byers and David Dinius when they met on Tuesday.
Draft minutes indicate that the men spoke with the council members about Project H.O.M.E, which is an acronym where each letter stands for Housing, Opportunities, Medical and Education. They said they’ve been looking into that organization, as well as an Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority(IHCDA) grant to potentially build some homes on a Center Street property owned by the town.
Martin advised the council to involve Habitat for Humanity in this process since they were able to successfully complete a subdivision on Harrison Street in Plymouth with a IHCDA grant.
Habitat for Humanity rep Dean Byers stated that he thinks about 3 homes could potentially be placed on the Center Street lot. Each structure would be between 1,200 to 1,300 square feet, according to Byers.
He told the members that the most important thing to do right now is to locate qualifying families who would be interested in the program, then wait for the round to open up for the application process.
Council members voted unanimously to move forward with the project.
