Plymouth City officials are looking into a possible detour as INDOT has planned reconstruction of the Baker Ditch Crossing this summer.
City Engineer Rick Gaul explained to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday that that the ditch crossing is east of the State Road 17 intersection and west of the interchange on U.S. 31.
“What they wanted to do was to utilize Hoham Drive and Oak Drive for a traffic detour for Plymouth exit ramps,” said Gaul. “What you’re looking at is the main traffic is still going east and west, but they have to shut off one lane of traffic so that will shut off one of the ramps.”
Gaul said restrictions would be put in place on the off ramps during the Blueberry Festival in September.
His initial response is this is the best way for those coming to Plymouth and leaving Plymouth during this project.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety will allow Gaul and Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt to analyze traffic flow and see if that detour would be feasible for this construction. Blueberry security would also be consulted.
