Triton School Board members received a review of the 2016-2017 school year from Superintendent Donna Burroughs during a meeting Tuesday night.
Burroughs explained that with the annual “scorecard presentation” she provides some information about academics, attendance and some additional scholastic details from the school year.
The superintendent stated that typically there is a 100 percent pass rate on the IREAD test. However, the rate was around 97 percent in 2016-17. She said that percentage is possibly the lowest they’ve ever scored but strong reading instruction programs are in place to help students improve in that subject.
On the positive side, Burroughs explained that the graduation rate stayed steady around 90 percent. She also said attendance scores were an exceptional reflection on the dedication of students and faculty.
Burroughs said, “[We had] 97 percent attendance for students, 98 percent for classified staff, 95 percent for certified staff, so good attendance.”
When it comes to discipline, Burroughs explained that there weren’t many issues. She stated that at the elementary school, there were only 3 suspensions and absolutely no expulsions. Only 1 high school student faced expulsion and there were 20 suspensions, which she described as a low number for an entire school year.
