In a recent media advisory, Marshall County Sheriff Matthew Hassel, in collaboration with Marshall County Community Corrections, proudly announced the expansion of current Inmate Programs offered at the County Jail.
The newly introduced Marshall County Jail Chemical Addictions Program (MCJCAP) aims to give men and women struggling with addictions a second chance. The program will incorporate existing Moral Reconation Therapy with the Smart Recovery Substance Abuse Program and Fatherhood Initiative Program as well as group and individual life skills coaching.
Trained staff with Marshall County Community Corrections will facilitate the expanded programming weekly in the jail. The organization director, Ward Byers, said that Community Corrections has been operating in the jail for more than two years providing evidence-based programs with great success.
Sheriff Hassel explained that over 90 percent of the inmate population suffers from substance abuse disorders. He said that these kinds of evidence-based programs have proven successful across the country in many correctional settings. He shared that he’s pleased they’re able to provide solid programming for the inmate population.
Community Corrections Director Ward Byers added that it is imperative that such services are offered at the County Jail level since this lays the foundation of continued treatment once the inmate is released to Community Supervision.
The jail programs are funded through a $39,000 Community Corrections grant. The Jail Chemical Addictions Program is slated to begin in January of 2018.
