This Friday, Plymouth Schools will be holding a few different programs in honor of Veterans Day.
To start off the day, members of the Plymouth High School student council will be hosting a breakfast from 7:45 a.m. until 8:45 a.m. Local veterans are encouraged to contact the school corporation ahead of time to reserve their spot. In order to be a part of the Veterans Day Breakfast, which will feature free coffee, doughnuts, eggs and other breakfast foods, contact 574-914-4849 prior to Friday.
After breakfast wraps up, a ceremony will be held in the PHS varsity gym at 9 a.m. The guest of honor at the High School program will be local business owner Josh Walker, an army veteran who served as a Calvary Scout with the 101st airborne division. MAX 98.3 FM will be broadcasting the event live beginning at 8:55 a.m.
For individuals who are unable to physically attend, the program will be recorded and can be viewed live on the Plymouth High School Youtube channel. Search PTV at PHS on Youtube to access the student orchestrated media page or click here.
After that, Webster Elementary School will hold their Veterans Day assembly at 10 a.m. At this program, students from all grades will share various things they’ve created in honor of Veterans Day. Kindergarten and second grade students will share poems, while fourth graders will share a theater performance.
The elementary choir will share several patriotic songs, first grade students will share thank you notes, and the essay winners from third and fourth grade will share their work. Veteran Gary Osborn will be the special speaker at this program. Faculty member Susie Kreighbaum, whose father was an Army veteran, will share the story of taps. Taps will be performed by Cindy Flagg and those in attendance will observe a moment of silence as the assembly is released.
Washington Discovery Academy is also hosting a program starting at 1:30 p.m. at the gym in their building. Riverside Intermediate School will hold their Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. All ceremonies are open to the public and veterans are encouraged to attend.
