Marshall County Employees to Take Part in Active Shooter Training

Marshall County employees will participate in active shooter training on Friday, Dec. 1.

The county building and courthouse will be closed to the public beginning at 1 p.m. The training is expected to last until 3:30 p.m.

According to Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery, the purpose of the training is to educate and provide all employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to make good decisions during a disaster. He believes that practicing for a potential active shooter situation will enhance the chance for survival.

Avery said the first part of the training will be classroom instruction followed by a simulation of an active shooter. Attendees will learn the ALICE program that is utilized by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. ALICE is Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. A brief discussion session will conducted following the exercise. That information will be delivered to the County Safety Committee for review.
