John Glenn Education Foundation Awards Grants

The John Glenn Education Foundation approved its first ever round of teacher grants in September.

The newly formed John Glenn Education Foundation allows corporation teachers to apply for grants to enrich classes.

The foundation is under the direction of Superintendent Richard Reese. Teachers can apply for foundation grants for their out-of-the-box ideas to enhance the learning experience for students. Grants will also be awarded for enhanced training, teaching techniques or new styles of learning.

The idea is to bridge the gap between need and funding.

Money from the recent sale of a home donated and deeded to the school corporation by the Hiler family helped provide initial grant funds for the foundation.

Superintendent Richard Reese told the John Glenn School Board members this week that the process is extensive, but rewarding to see students benefiting from a foundation geared toward their success in education.

Grant funds were approved for items such as a weight room record board, classroom books, VEX robotics competition arena, clay slab roller, makerspace, and a virtual visit to 3rd graders from an author. In all, about $6,200 was approved for the first semester grant round. A second round of grants will be awarded during the second semester. About $5,800 will be available to distribute.
