DACA Dreamers Unity Walk Set for Today

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members this week approved a request from Jim Smart to hold a Unity Walk supporting DACA Dreamers today.

He said the event will begin at noon.

“It would start at St. Michael’s church with a prayer and then move to St. Thomas church for another prayer,” explained Smart. “The walk would continue on Michigan Street on the sidewalk all the way down to Penguin Point. We’ll follow all of the traffic signs in an orderly manner. We’ll cut across and come back northbound on Michigan Street back to St. Michael’s for further discussion on issues and concerns.”

Those participating may bring signs of support.

DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, was an American immigration policy that allowed some individuals who entered the county as minors, or remained in the country illegally, to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and to be eligible for a work permit. The policy was enacted in 2012 and abolished in September of this year.
