Firefighters from the area fire departments recently visited the Walkerton Elementary School to discuss fire safety with students.
Walkerton Elementary School Principal Tim Davis told the John Glenn School Board members this week that it was a great experience for the kids.
“The kindergarten classes walked down to the Lincoln Township Fire Station on Wednesday and Thursday where they were shown the trucks and given hats and instructed on fire safety,” said Davis. On Friday, Oct. 13, the Polk Township firefighters came in and gave presentations to all of the grade levels. They ate lunch with us and had a great day.”
North Liberty Elementary School Principal Randy Romer said firefighters, police agencies and first responders visited the school for a variety of presentations.
“Thank you to the Liberty Township Fire Department, Indiana State Police, South Bend City Police, and North Liberty Police for participating in the Public Safety appreciation event we had last Friday,” mentioned Romer. Students were able to interact with the first responders and ask them questions about their profession. Afterwards, a few officers and first responders were able to stay for a practice lockdown drill to go over procedures.”
The John Glenn School Board members were encouraged to hear the students interact with public safety officials.
