The Town of Culver is beginning preparations for a visit from officials with the Stellar Communities Designation Program. The event is set for Oct. 5.
The goal of the Indiana Stellar Communities Designation Program is to help rural towns, like Culver, gather the resources needed to invest in improvements for economic revitalization. Those projects could include housing or other community-minded interests to renew spirit to the area or to alleviate decline.
Several state and federal partners collaborate to offer a Stellar community the opportunity to fund projects that otherwise wouldn’t be realized through the designation program. If Culver is chosen, approximately $6 million could come to the community to help build infrastructure for a workforce development housing complex, an amphitheater in the Culver Town Park, improvements to the Culver Beach Lodge, and a pedestrian walking/biking trail in town and around Lake Maxinkuckee. Other lighter, cheaper and quicker projects are also within the Town of Culver’s application.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist said the Stellar Committee members will be working on their presentation for the official site visit throughout this month.
Culver is in the Division II category and competing against the Town of Churubusco and City of Union City. This is the second consecutive year the Town of Culver has been named a finalist in this program.
An announcement of the winners is set for Oct. 18.
