A new library is planned in the town of Walkerton.
Library Director Traci Stewart told MAX 98.3 FM News that Larry Hiler donated a parcel of land on the corner of U.S. 6 and Washington Street which will make the facility easier to see than its hidden location at 300 Michigan Street. The library has been at that location for the past 20 years.
Stewart said the plans for the new facility will be designed more to a library’s standards. All of the technology will be updated and there will be space for a children’s room and a meeting room. The staff will be happy to welcome a kitchen space and a break room as well as a more private bathroom.
The new library will be approximately 5,300 square feet.
An OCRA grant in the amount of $400,000 as well as other donations will help make this facility a reality. The library board opened bids in July. The board members will decide how to move forward on the submitted proposals when they meet tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the library.
