Indiana Conservation Officers Investigate Accidental Drownings

Two boys lost their lives in an accidental drowning in Redinger Ditch in Argos on Sunday afternoon.

Indiana Conservation Officers were called to investigate the incident in the area of 20th Road and Gumwood Road around 2:30 p.m. Officers say several juveniles were playing in or around the ditch when one fell into the body of water and began to struggle. The other juveniles attempted to save the boy by linking together to form a human chain, but another boy fell into the water. Both boys, Mahlon Z. Martin, 13, and Kenneth Z. Martin, 12, drowned in the incident.

The Indiana Conservation office was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Argos Police Department, Argos Fire/EMS, and Lutheran EMS from Rochester.
