The staff at the Culver School Corporation and staff at locations throughout the Culver area are offering free breakfast and lunch as part of the federal Summer Food Service Program.
Culver’s efforts began on June 5 and just a few students have accepted meals at the Culver High School, 30 students for breakfast and 60 students for lunch at the Culver Elementary School, 15 students for lunch only at the Monterey Public Library, 20-25 students for lunch at the Leiters Ford Community Building, 15-20 children at the Ora Gospel Church and 15-20 kids for lunch only at the Culver-Union Township Public Library.
Breakfast and lunch will be served at the Culver Community High School until June 16. Breakfast is from 7:45 to 9 a.m. and lunch is 11:45 a.m. -12:05 p.m. Breakfast only will be served June 19-June 30 and certain dates in July.
Culver Elementary School will also be the host site for breakfast from 7:45 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. from now until July 28.
Free lunch for children will be offered at the Aubbenaubee Township Community Building through July 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Lunch will be offered at the Ora Gospel Chapel Church from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. until July 14.
Two public libraries are also participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Lunch at the Monterey-Tippecanoe Public Library is from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. until July 14 while the Culver-Union Township Public Library is serving lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through July 14.
This year the school is working with Blessings in a Backpack which occurs every Friday at each site. Members of the group bring them to each site and pass them out to children as they leave. The goal of this program helps to keep nourishment flowing over the weekend until the lunch sites open again on Monday.
