Indiana Department of Transportation crews will work to chip and seal a portion of State Road 331 between Bourbon and State Road 25 next week.
INDOT officials say the work will begin on Monday, June 12 and continue through June 16. The length of construction time could take longer depending on weather conditions.
The official detour takes drivers traveling north on State Road 331 eastbound on State Road 25, north on State Road 19, west on U.S. 30 back to State Road 331. Drivers traveling south on State Road 331 will be detoured east on U.S. 30, south on State Road 19, west on State Road 25, back to State Road 331.
Chip sealing helps preserve the existing road surface by protecting it from moisture, ultraviolet degradation, and other damaging exposures. The application also reestablishes surface friction which increases safety. According to INDOT, studies show that every $1.00 invested in chip and seal operations saves $6.00 to $14.00 in future roadway costs.
