Plymouth Community School Corporation Assistant Superintendent Andrew Hartley was appointed as the corporation’s new superintendent. The action was made official by a unanimous vote by the Plymouth Community School Board members Wednesday night.
Hartley will be replacing Dan Tyree as superintendent when Tyree retires at the end of the month.
Hartley said he’s ready to face the challenge of continuing the leadership of the school corporation.
“I want to thank the board for the opportunity and Mr. Tyree for his service to our school corporation,” said Hartley. “I’m excited to continue to work with our team in this new role. We have great people here who have a strong commitment to our kids and excited to continue to work with them.”
Hartley has been with the Plymouth Community School Corporation for nine years. He was the assistant principal at the high school for four years and at Washington Discovery Academy for 2.5 years as principal. He held the assistant superintendent position for the past 2.5 years.
All of the board members commented that they felt confidant in their candidate choice. Board President Todd Samuelson made note that the board interviewed several candidates for the position and felt Hartley was the best fit for the corporation.
Superintendent Dan Tyree is completing 41 years in education on June 30. All but two years of his tenure has been at Plymouth schools. He attended his last school board meeting Wednesday night.
“It’s been a great way to end my career here at Plymouth and very thankful to this board and other board members for having confidence in me. Plymouth schools are in great shape and I feel confident with the new leadership that they’ve chosen that Plymouth schools will continue to be in great shape.”
Hartley’s contract is in effect from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2020.
