Kindercamp Students Getting a Jump Start to School

John Glenn elementary students who have not had the opportunity to attend preschool or day care are getting a jump start to kindergarten.

For three weeks students attend Kindercamp at Walkerton Elementary School and North Liberty Elementary School and get acclimated to how things work in a classroom. Walkerton Elementary School Principal Tim Davis told the John Glenn School Board this week that there are 17 students attending Kindercamp at each of the elementary schools.

Students are in Kindercamp from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The students eat breakfast and lunch and learn how that process is conducted. They are also learning educational and social skills in the classroom.

All students will receive a book for every day they attend the Kindercamp session.

Funds from the United Way helped employ two teachers and an aide in this year’s classroom efforts at both schools.
