Plymouth Community School Board Receives Handbook Updates

Handbook changes were presented to the Plymouth School Board members this week.

Handbook committee member Kenneth Olson presented a change that was suggested by a parent. The parent suggested a chance to contact the Bowen Center anonymously rather than going through the guidance counselor to seek services. The request was to publish the number in the handbook and that request was approved and it is now included.

The updated policy manual will prohibit the wearing of unnatural contact lens colors.

A mass email provision was included in the handbook update. Olson said it’s more of a high school issue, but they’re finding more mass emails containing negative content. The emails also solicit fundraising efforts.

A dress code amendment was added to include hoods as an item to remove off of heads when students enter the buildings.

At the lower level grades, the recess policy was changed to align with the IHSAA guidelines concerning outdoor temperatures. Heat concerns were not addressed so language concerning heat and amendments pertaining to wind chill temperatures was updated.

As a safety concern, Riverside Elementary students will no longer be allowed to walk from the shuttle area to and from the high school. Bused students will need to be transported for the entire trip. The trip duration also applies to Lincoln Junior High School students.

The iaddition of a Chinese Club will also be installed in the handbook.

The school board did not take action on the changes for next year’s handbook. The presentation was for information only.
