Plymouth City Engineer Rick Gaul presented the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members with a proposed Memorandum of Understanding from the Plymouth Community School Corporation concerning the financial guarantee that deals with drainage at the football field.
The school is applying an astroturf surface on the high school football field beginning in June. Gaul explained that the plans call for a proper draining into the city’s system with the alternate type of surface.
“When you put in a hard surface area, or in this case a very porous area, it’s going to be gathered in the drains and drained out. If you put all of that into the system at once, you’re going to have flooding. Right before it goes into the city’s system you put in a detention area which is a small pond. Water will back up into that and release at a controlled rate,” said Gaul.
Gaul added that the digging to install piping will be included in the school’s financial guarantee. If the work is not done right, there is no bond. In a similar MOU on another project with the school, the school will take care of the issue.
The board unanimously approved the Memorandum of Understanding.
