Outdoor Project to Start Soon at the Rees Theater

Outside work at the Rees Theater in Plymouth will be starting soon.

The Wythougan Valley Preservation Council members presented a request to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety this week asking to block off a few parking spaces on Michigan and LaPorte Streets for a portion of the work. While the board members approved that request, the preservation council members will need to present a similar request to the Indiana Department of Transportation as Michigan Street is considered a state highway.

Brent Martin from the Wythougan Valley Preservation Council appeared before the Plymouth City Council in April to go over some of the outside work in the restoration plan. The masonry tile façade on the west will be restored as well as the playbills. Steel that has rusted will be replaced. The windows will be painted and restored and NIPSCO has partnered with the Rees Theater to retrofit the marquee with energy efficient, long-life LED bulbs that will replace the existing incandescent bulbs.

Foundation issues will be considered by an engineer as well as other building exterior issues.

No time frame was given on the start of the project.
