The Crossing School and Business Entrepreneurship is hosting a fundraising banquet on Thursday, May 11 to help provide education and job training skills to students in a non-traditional school setting.
Campus Administrator Brian St. Louis said the Plymouth school assists students who don’t normally flourish in a traditional classroom setting. The Crossing provides an option for those students to be in a different environment with an alternate pace to gain the necessary education to become a productive member of society. It also includes a faith based component.
St. Louis said The Crossing does offer Core 40 standards for that specialty diploma or a general diploma when certain requirements are met.
Students in this program not only gather curriculum needs, but the school encourages job training and entrepreneurship opportunities. This gives the students the potential to get a job more easily after their education is complete. St. Louis mentioned that the students are currently working at a mill pond job site and looking to possibly convert the area into a park.
Thirty-five Marshall County students are enrolled at the Plymouth site at 1007 W. Madison Street. Brian St. Louis said the facility may move to a bigger site before the first day of the next school year. July 31st begins the next school year.
The fundraising event on Thursday, May 11 will feature testimony from the students as to how The Crossing has changed their outlook on life. The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Ancilla College Student Life Center/Dining Hall in Plymouth. The money raised during the event will help fund education and scholarship opportunities for the students.
