Marshall County Highway Shop Supervisor Jerry Ambrose asked the commissioners this week for permission to shop for trucks for the highway department at the J. J. Kane Auction in Gary on May 13.
He explained to the commissioners that these are not brand new trucks, but used vehicles that will update their already aging fleet. These trucks are used to haul garbage and any other maintenance use for the highway department. He has purchased trucks from this auction before and they are still running.
Ambrose said these vehicles are no longer used by other municipalities and companies like NIPSCO because of high miles or age, but they are well maintained and work well for the needs of the highway department.
He asked the commissioners for permission to purchase possibly up to five vehicles at a cost not to exceed $45,000. The commissioners unanimously approved the request.
