Students who speak English as a second language will have a program to help them develop college-level English language and study skills.
Ancilla College is launching a new program this fall to support these students to assist them in being successful at the school. Specially designed classes at Ancilla will expand language knowledge and communication skills that align with the liberal arts curriculum and the Ancilla College English Language Program (ACEL).
Professor Sam Soliman, Ancilla’s interim vice president for academic affairs, says students in the ACEL program will take an extra class with more intensive language skill training while earning regular college credits to obtain a degree.
The classes will include social and cultural experiences, and learning related vocabulary with written and oral responses to the experiences.
ACEL students will live on campus, work with Ancilla students, take part in special study groups, and participate in cultural events and trips.
Ancilla College has seen overseas enrollment grow by over 50 percent in the last six years.
