Local Farmers Honored with Sesquicentennial Award

A Bremen family farm was recently recognized at the Statehouse with a Hoosier Homestead award for 150 years of family farm ownership.

State Representative Jack Jordan and State Senator Ryan Mishler honored the Mishler family in Bremen for the continuous use of farm land by the same family for 157 years.

The Mishler farm began its operation in 1860. The yearly operation earned the qualification and nomination for the sesquicentennial award.

Farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more may earn distinction through the Hoosier Homestead Award Program.

This is one of two ceremonies held each year to commemorate this unique achievement of farmers.
