The John Glenn School Board members opened their meeting to the public to gather comments on the donation of property at 123 Shamrock Street by the Hiler family to the John Glenn Education Foundation.
The family initially donated the property to the corporation at the end of 2015. Superintendent Richard Reese explained this was before the John Glenn Education Foundation was officially organized.
“The Hilers were comfortable with giving it to the school corporation with the knowledge that once the foundation became functional that we would exercise whatever process it takes to get this to the foundation,” said Reese.
The foundation was officially formed in November 2016.
Hearing no public comments made about the property donation the school board members approved the donation of the property at 123 Shamrock Street from the school corporation to the John Glenn Education Foundation.
A quick claim deed will be finalized once a question about the title is solved. Superintendent Reese told the board that after going over the paperwork, the property may have been titled incorrectly. It is believed that when preparing the documents, the title company may have listed the John Glenn High School Building Corporation as the title holder when in fact it should be the John Glenn School Corporation.
The board members approved the quick claim deed action with the knowledge that the title error will be corrected when the deed is signed.
The property is expected to be sold at the end of the month. The proceeds of the sale will go toward the John Glenn Education Foundation. The foundation allows teachers to apply for grants that will help enhance learning with unique tactics to enrich students. The Teacher Grants Committee will review all grant applications and the grants will be awarded as funds allow. The idea behind the foundation is to bridge the gap between need and funding.
