The recent sale of property donated to the John Glenn Education Foundation and the sale of items within the estate equal a great start to assisting teachers and students with grants within the John Glenn School Corporation.
The Hiler family donated property at 123 Shamrock Street to the school corporation and the corporation followed procedures to donate it to the John Glenn Education Foundation with the understanding that proceeds of the sale of the home would benefit the foundation.
The John Glenn School Board learned Tuesday night that the home has been sold along with its contents. The total amount to be accepted by the foundation is $180,395. The tag sale netted $6,242.19. There are a few household items that will be offered for purchase at a later time.
Superintendent Richard Reese said that this money allows the foundation’s committee members to have a great start in enhancing education by the issuance of grants soon.
“We’re going to be giving back with the purpose to enhance teaching and the learning of students,” commented Reese. “That’s what we’re all about as a school corporation. We’re going to give some of that money back to our community. Hopefully as we give back, we will continue to get money. We’re going to be out promoting the foundation, ways to give and opportunities for people in our community.”
The foundation was formed in November 2016 under the direction of Superintendent Richard Reese. Teachers can apply for foundation grants for their out-of-the-box ideas to enhance the learning experience for students. Grants will also be awarded for enhanced training, teaching techniques or new styles of learning.
The John Glenn Education Foundation meets every third Monday at 7 p.m. in the meeting room in the administration office on the school’s campus. The next scheduled meeting is May 15.
