A street in the downtown area will now have a parking restriction as approved by the Plymouth Board of Public Works last night.
Business owner, Pamela Mahler Lee, submitted a request asking that Water Street between Garro and Washington Streets have a parking restriction on the west side. According to Lee, it’s difficult for patrons to easily park with easy access to the three stores in that area as city employees, and store owners with businesses on Michigan Street take up those parking spots for the majority of the work day.
Two hour parking is posted on the east side of the street, but not on the west side, thus precipitating her complaint.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver noted that half of the city staff parks on the street and half park in the parking lot.
One business owner agreed with Lee’s complaint. Councilman Don Ecker, Jr. said he spoke with Lee and noted that most of the spots were taken when he visited with her.
The Board of Works members voted unanimously to make the west side of Water Street between Garro and Washington Streets a two-hour parking zone.
