To accommodate taxpayers, the Marshall County Treasurer’s Office will be open extended hours for collecting spring and fall property taxes.
The Marshall County Commissioners heard the request from Treasurer Angie Birchmeier for extended hours for the acceptance of payments for the spring property tax installment due May 10.
“We would like to be open on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to noon and Tuesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” requested Birchmeier.
Birchmeier explained that the fall property tax schedule will be modified due to the county’s observance of the Veteran’s Day holiday on Friday, Nov. 10.
“I have spoken to the Department of Local Government Finance and they have told everyone in the state that Nov. 13 is the fall due date instead of Nov. 10. We would like to have extended hours on Thursday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon and Monday, Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.”
Any payments that are postmarked on the due date and any walk-ins that pay in the office on the due date will be accepted as “on-time” payments.
A sheriff’s department deputy will also be assigned to the treasurer’s office during the extended hours.
