The Marshall County Highway Department will be busy working on roads this summer. At first glance at a proposed road project list provided to the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning, chip and seal, double chip and seal, crack sealing and paving will take place on several miles of road this season.
According to Highway Supervisor Jason Peters, his department will pave 42.5 miles of roads with millings, 7.25 miles of roads will be double chip and sealed, 13 miles will have chip and seal work, while 10.5 miles of roads will be crack sealed.
The commissioners held off on approving the submitted proposal so they can get a better look at the roads to be repaired.
Peters hopes a Community Crossings Grant will allow for more work to be done. This grant was established to provide matching funds to counties or municipalities that would help in repairing or increasing the capacity of local roads and bridges.
The total cost of the proposed road work is approximately $1.75 million, depending on funding.
