The Marshall County Commissioners approved a bid for the Apple Road bridge replacement project this week.
Four bids were received at their last meeting. According to Brandon Arnold from USI Consultants, Inc. three of the bids came in within 10 percent of the engineer’s estimate which was $406,000.
Arnold recommended the lowest bidder be approved for the project.
“LaPorte Construction came in as the low bid at approximately $275,000,” said Arnold. “Ive examined each of the bids and obtained all of the documents necessary. We feel that LaPorte Construction, as the low bidder, did comply with all requested documents and should be awarded the bid at this time.”
The commissioners unanimously approved USI’s recommendation to approve LaPorte Construction’s bid of $274,774.68 to replace the bridge. Bridge #174, or Apple Road bridge, is on Apple Road over the Yellow Creek, north of State Road 25 before the railroad tracks.
Arnold told MAX 98.3 FM News that the replacement project does not have a set start date. The management of LaPorte Construction has the flexibility of beginning the project when their calendar allows, however the construction must be finished by the end of the fall. They have a 75-day window in which to complete the project.
